Broyan was born and raised in Markdale? in the lands of the Sylangi tribe. Famed for his luck and his mighty winds, Broyan was elected Volsaxi tribal king in 1610 and was acclaimed High King of the Volsaxar by the Four Tribes. When King Orngerin of Heortland died in 1617, the Seshnegi mercenary Rikard the Tiger-Hearted took over the southern kingdom and proclaimed himself "king of Malkonwal". Broyan invoked Hendreik the Free and with the support of the Larnsti Brotherhood, was proclaimed King of the Hendreiki.
Even as a child, Broyan's winds? were powerful. He could speak words of power without being taught and could speak to the winds without guidance. At his initiation, he summoned his personal wind Hoargrey the Biter? to the amazement of the godi and had visions of the coming Darkness. He was chosen by Vingkot Victorious? to save his people.
Broyan's friendship is sought by kings and thanes - and freely given to cottars and stickpickers.
After Starbrow's Rebellion, exiles from Sartar? such as Leika and Kallyr Starbrow were granted hospitality and protection in Whitewall.
In 1615, the Volsaxi raided Halfort, the hill fort of the Balmyr kings, after Willandring Clever-Kennings built his temple to Dobdurdun. The Lunar command at Wilmskirk? led a reprisal raid the following year - after which the Volsaxi again raided the Balmyr and plundered Halfort.
<Jane>It has been suggested that this tactic of supporting the Sartarite rebels without ever actually involving his own troops was a deliberate policy to use an unsettled Sartar as a buffer against Lunar advancement into Heortland. It has also been suggested that not only does Kallyr approve of this policy, it was her idea.</Jane>
{Give an example of his harsher side}. Broyan rejoiced upon learning of the Pharoah's demise and offered sacrifices to Orlanth and Hendreik.
In 1617, Broyan proclaimed himself High King of the Volsaxar after insultingly recognizing Rikard Tiger-Heart "King of Malkonwal" and professed ignorance as to where that land was located.
His wife is Scathach the Iron Shrew, a bitchy shrew from the PoliticallyImportantAlly?.
During the siege, Broyan will increasingly call upon the powers of Free Hendreik and reinvoke the events of the Battle of the Verge. He will begin worshipping Vingkot directly as a god and as his ancestor. Later, he will seek the mysteries of Larnste? and Hendreik the Free so that he and his followers can escape Whitewall's doom.

Looks, personality as NPC
OiD tells us his favourite exclamation is "Kot's balls!"
He has winds swirling around him a lot.
We've decided that when provoked he has a violent temper - violent to the point of accidentally killing people, usually with winds.
Broyan is calculating, resourceful and extremely lucky. He's very single-minded about his goal to lead a free Hendreiki people.
It has been suggested that if this were a film, he would be played by Brian Blessed. Anyone who knows who Brian Blessed is has whole-heartedly approved. For those who don't, I've found a few thumb-nail pics (yes, I copied them to my site, no intention of abusing copyright, just no intention of band-width theft, either)

But really you need to see (and hear) him in action to appreciate why Brian is Broyan. The first series of Blackadder (last picture), or "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves" would be my suggestions.
