Charmanda the Scribe
Charmanda is, unusually for a Carmanian woman, literate and works directly for Tatius unlike most scribes who work for his secretaries. Combined with her choice of clothing this has lead to some speculation as to her real role in his retinue. She wears perfectly traditional Carmanian dress, however that is normally only worn within the harem. It is only the wet and windy weather of Sartar? which causes her to wrap up even outside. Such is the revealing nature of her garb and its tendency to distract males, especially Dara Happans, that it is claimed that the first new commands for over a thousand years have been introduced into the phalanx drill manual - "eyes closed" for when she appears and "eyes open" for when she is safely past. She is apparently completely oblivious to the attention she attracts and so far no one is known to have dared interpret her dress as an invitation.
In fact Charmanda is Tatius's spymaster, responsible for collecting and collating information and able to order the carrying out of various covert activities. She rarely engages in operations but is quite capable of looking after herself using the traditional harem weapons of poisoned daggers and pins. She is a devotee of an obscure Irippi Ontor subcult concerned with secret knowledge.
