Background: Lokarnos - Lunar College of Magic

<Nick>

In 1619, the units of the College of Magic at Whitewall? includes the Crimson Bat, some 24 bat priests, and a company of 120 bat guards.

<Jeff>

Are the Seven (Sixty?) of Vistur counted in the College?

<Yak>

<Stu>
Martin has them assigned thus. As to the "Seven" vs. "Sixty", I think there are lots of ways this could be answered. Perhaps they are seven powerful Darjiini magic-workers, but are accompanied by a small force of guards, lunar sextant holders etc. Or they could simply be a unit that holds to the traditions and example of the famous "Seven" of earlier wanes. Or maybe they just hold true in their efforts to the Seven Sublime Poliocretic Principles of UrSardu.

UrSardu might not be wholly appropriate (he's a battle spirit son of Kotor), but I've just read the brief sentence on him an he sounds fun, and it's better than <insert name here>. Also he has a big rock named after him, which is always good.

He's supposed to be immovable and indefatigable, defending the city of Ernez that is perched above his big rock; these correspondences might sound better attuned to those defending a city from siege, but most siege engineers through myth and history tend to do both jobs equally. There knowledge of the magics of defence would also naturally help them overcome such in attack. But hold on...

Perhaps the Seven were actually in opposition to UrSardu and his city of Ernez, and developed their considerable arts in times past, in an effort to take this never-before captured Manimati city for their patrons in Vistur. Now peace prevails under the glow of the Red Moon, but the descendents of the Seven still practise ther arts of their ancestors. Ernez and UrSardu's rock sound a bit like Whitewall? and the Tor, no?

Perhaps that is why the Seven have been especially despatched. For generations the Seven and their descendants planned rituals and weapons for the fall of Ernez... plans that might prove of use in Whitewall?</Stu>

LATEST EDIT:<Stu>Finally managed to track down Vistur on a map. It's on the NE rim of Silver Shadow, and is actually in Karasal. It is 100 miles as the crow flies from Ernez. Despite it's positioning, Martin has them down as a Darjiini unit in history. Now, 100 miles is not too extended a distance from Ernez to carry out a war, prior to the creation of the Crater. But is this were to happen since the Dawn, while the Dara Happans might look over minor Darjiini squabbles, a war between cities this far apart would have other consequences that would attract their notice. Another option is for the Seven of Vistur? to be have been from there originally, but perhaps to have been hired especially by a different Manimati city to prosecute their war on Ernez? Or maybe a prominent figure in Vistur decided to aid this other Manimati city, and called the greatest workers of magic to his call, of whom seven came...</Stu>

<Stu>What do folks think? The Seven of Vistur against Ernez and the UrSardu Rock? Hmmmmm... I think I feel a Darjiini legendary history write-up coming on! :o)</Stu>
