Enothea
is one of the oldest members of a Volsaxi family that has been living here all along, in the Shambleshur. The family as a whole are weavers, and pacifists by Orlanthi standards. (One of them specialises in weaving peace blankets).
Enothea lives slightly apart from the rest of her family, with a decrepit alynx for company. She keeps her home spotlessly clean, she apparently doesn't notice the havoc going on around her, and she always offers visitors a cup of tea and a biscuit (all right, substitute some more Heortling equivalent, but that's the stereotype we're after).
She looks harmless, helpless, and probably senile. But. When it comes to time to evacuate the city, she somehow always gets left behind. "It's all right dear, those Lunars won't bother an old lady like me". Right up to the end, there she is, china teacups neatly dusted, cat on her lap.
How come? I haven't worked out details, but think about a formerly powerful Earth cultist whose priorities have narrowed and who has no interest in politics at all.
charles - Suggestion: What no-one knows, least of all Enothea, is that her home is a
short world, possibly the Dream World. The condition for someone (or a group) passing into this short world is merely that they mean absolutely no harm before entry and are unable to interfere with Enothea (eg. trying to make her leave) after entry. Only the total destruction of Whitewall is sufficient to eject Enothea from her dream world. Her magic to create this world is at least in the 10M3 range (after augmentation), as she did it all by herself.
