Arriving at Whitewall
This is the first encounter the player characters have at Whitewall, in 1619 and early 1620 it will be at one of the gates. After the Lunars have blocked the main routes it will be at a rendevous with someone prepared to smuggle them in to Whitewall.
The Player Characters are greeted in the normal Heortling manner by the thane in charge of the gate. This is Kistrad the Steady of the Reaching Stone Clan although the narrator may chose to substitute someone else. Anyone with an ability in Heortling Customs can respond but whoever it is will be assumed to be the leader of the party. Considerable importance is placed on who they are, who knows them and why they are there.
The contest is a straight forward one of Heortling Customs against a resistence of 14 modified as follows:
- No clan +5
- Clan known to be sympathetic to the Lunars +5
- Naming a well known individual already present -5
- Naming a heroband or clan warband already present -5
- During 1620 the claim "Responding to the blue arrow sent to our clan chief" -5
- Vague or waffling answers +5
- Asking where to find the person or clan they name -5
- For each season since the start of the siege +1 (this reflects growing suspicion of Lunar infiltrators)
The player can augment and appropriate actions in support by the rest of the party can help.
Lying will probably be detected by Kistrad reinforced as he is by the truth magic of the gate, if the players insist on trying it the opposition is 6W2 and detection either then or later will result in them being treated as enemies by everyone in the city.
The results are:
- Major or complete victory - welcomed as a kinsman by the thane in charge of the gate, even if they didn't ask for directions they will be given. The players gain relationship of "Friend of Kistrad" at 17.
- Victory - welcomed as a friend by the thane in charge of the gate and given information asked for. The players gain relationship of "Friend of Kistrad" at 13.
- Defeat - accepted as a guest but regarded with suspicion, one of the guards will follow them to see where they go.
- Major or complete defeat - If at a rendevous their contact refuses to smuggle them into the city, at the gatehouse they are either refused entry or lured into a room which can be locked while the person or head of the clan they named is sent for. The players gain relationship of "Distrusted by Kistrad" at 17 even if the person called vouches for them.
