"Grandma" Renathe is the oldest person in the Volsaxi tribe and a devotee of Asrelia/Ty Kora Tek. That she has children and grandchildren is certain, who they are is less so for she has lived on her own in Whitewall since before King Broyan took the throne. Precisely where she lives is also a mystery for even those who've found her house once cannot find it later unless she wills it. There are few things known about her for certain but these include -
- The Volsaxi Priestesses of Ernalda can find her when required.
- She is respected and listened to even by the King himself although she has no official position.
- That she is the most powerful Priestess of Asrelia/Ky Tora Kek in Volsaxiland if not the whole of Dragon Pass.
- She concerns herself not with grain and cattle as do most Asrelians but obscure items "which will be of use" though who to and when is usually a complete mystery everyone else.
Beyond that are stories and rumours
- That she is King Broyan's grandmother.
- That she is Vingkot's daughter and took his shield and helm for safe keeping until a worthy successor should arise.
- That she appears in court when King Broyan distributes treasures taken in battle and he never fails to gift her with whatever she requests.
- That her treasure is hidden in the gods world.
- That as a priestess of Kev she saw the path of the Hero Wars and now controls the destiny of Glorantha.
- That whatever your need she has a treasure to help but the price is high.
The narrator should not regard her as an antique dealer but a source of plot, someone who manipulates people and things in what she sees as the interests of her tribe and goddesses.
