The Lunars need considerable supplies of men, animals and materials. Soon after the establishment of the siege all local forage would be exhausted, and the Lunar army has to import all it needs.
The Lunar might establish a supply depot out of the danger area around Whitewall itself, where supplies could be gathered and convoys assembled.
Benedict Adamson suggests that the depot would be Wilmskirk?, in southern Sartar?. It is the last walled city before Whitewall on the road network south., and only three days away.
Before Bendedict reacted to the fan policy you could read more about his suggestion on his

DP:LoT gives Smithstone as another supply base:
"Smithstone fell to Imperial assault in 1619, and since then has been the capital of the Volsaxi March, giftedby the empire to Baron Sanuel, a Trader Prince. Smithstone was an important supply base for the Empire's siege of Whitewall, and Lunar soldiers and their camp followers still fill the streets. The finest redsmiths in Heortland toil here now. Once they labored at the forges freely for Volsaxi chieftains, now they toil unwillingly for the Empire. Gustbran forged many famous tools here, including the sword Uzcleaver, the wheel Gold Spinner, and Starkval's hearthposts. A prominent rock, flat-topped and scorched, is said to be his anvil."

My initial thought was that the Lunars bring much of the stuff upriver - see map. The siege progress doc suggests that moonboats might be needed to overcome the terrain of the Plateau, esp. once attack Umbroli take out a few bridges.

<benedict> I think Moonboats are impractical for the large supply requirements, snd so far beyond the Glowline. Surface transport has the advatage of giving scenario seeds for characters "outside" Whitewall itself. Perhaps OK for moving senior officers around. </benedict>
<Joerg> My version of Karse also has resident Etyries merchants (originally from Kostaddi) who provided Sable antelope caravans into the Empire. They would be a logical contractor to supply significant portions of the army's needs. </Joerg>
<LC>Post-takeover Karse is going to have an even stronger Lunar presence and would therefore be an important supply depot. It might be doing more support for the rest of the Heortland invasion (to the south of Whitewall). Mind you, I also suspect Karse, with its thriving shady side, is also used to smuggle supplies to the rebels.</LC>
