This Wiki originated at 
http://www.eparsnip.f2s.com/phpwiki/index.php where it was running on PhpWiki version 1.2. The problem that we faced was WikiSpam, totally uninvolved people posting links to unrelated sites in an attempt to up their rank in Google etc.
Charles decided to look into alternatives and found that development version 1.3 of PhpWiki had the facilities to prevent WikiSpam by allowing security to be imposed. And it had lots of other nice features too, including:
- click on the storm rune to return to the home page (top right hand corner)
- while viewing a page, double-click in the text to edit it
- a list across the top of each page of the more heavily used links, including FindPage and BackLinks (to find the pages that link to the current page)
- WantedPages to help find what pages are linked to but have not yet been created
- OrphanedPages to locate pages not linked to from the HomePage
- a way to configure pretty links, so that pages appear as http://www.runegate.org/whitewall/wiki/Volsaxi rather than http://www.eparsnip.f2s.com/phpwiki/index.php?Volsaxi - this also means that Google and other search engines will be able to follow the links
- RSS feed of RecentChanges (changes marked as major) and RecentEdits (all changes) - for Mozilla and Firefox users, these pages can be put into the sidebar).
Some changes that are just changes and are not so nice:
- FrontPage is now HomePage
- Some of the text formatting has changed - see TextFormattingRules and OldTextFormattingRules
