Sophia is a fereshori in the service of Great Sister who has been sent to monitor the activities of the Warlord Tatius the Bright on behalf of her patron. She travels with a vexilla consisting a century of Iron Maidens, a century of Copper Girls and a squad of Rune Ladies. There is no disagreement that Whitewall should fall but Great Sister is concerned about means after the military used the Crimson Bat. Sophia has considerable power to intervene where necessary but has neither wish nor authority to command the army herself. Her ultimate sanction would be to send a message to Great Sister asking for the Emperor to recall Tatius however this is extremely unlikely since neither have any reason to take the risks involved. While outside the Lunar chain of command there is nothing to stop Sophia taking direct action in the siege or even taking other troops into her vexilla although they would probably be women. Such activity would be for a specific purpose related to her mission, not just to help Tatius out. Great Sister has no wish for her soldiers to be frittered away to cover for the inadequacies of the Emperor's armies.
