Professor Theogenes Aristole WD, CoM, known as Theo to a few friends from his youth and around Whitewall simply as "The Professor", is a Doctor of Wizardry and senior professor at the Lunar College of Magic. He is at Whitewall as a consequence of his specialism in the use of spells to counter theistic magic and his primary job is to destroy the magical defences of the city. He dislikes Tatius for reasons which go back many years but this personal dislike does not stop them working together. He is not primarily a military man, seeing the siege as a series of academic problems to solve, and only when it affects people he knows and likes do his emotions become involved. He is a Dara Happan who joined the order of Makabaeus. Early on in his career he was allowed access to a Malkioni grimoire "Spells for the defeat of the heathen" and concentrated his energies on researching these spells and developing others. He leads a team of six assistant wizards and seven apprentices. He is unmarried although one of his assistants would like to change that. Unfortunately for her he is completely unaware that she is in love with him. As he has no direct heirs he regards his nephew Gemellus1? as the family future.

<Charles> Gossip has it, that despite his dislike for Tatius, Theogenes is the intellectual driving force behind Tatius conduct of the siege of Whitewall.

Iripikia

Iripikia is a junior professor in the College of Magic, working as an assistant to Professor Aristole. For someone of her experience and competence this is surprising but she has several times refused promotion to remain his assistant. Why? because she loves him and wants a family. As a Sylilian she realises it is unlikely that he would agree to a formal marriage but hopes for at least an acknowledged child. However that is becoming increasingly problematical as she gets older so she is getting desperate because he completely ignores her advances. This has made her suspicious that he has some secret lover or old flame and she keeps trying to discover who it is. She doesn't usually show this attachment so most of her collegues are unaware of it.
