The Unasbrood
Una Oxen Lover has always been a bit of a rebel against the norms. She has never entered into even a year marriage relationship with any man yet she has 11 children all of whom survived childhood. Her abilities with cattle are near legendary and her love for them and her children are wildly known. It was this love that got her into trouble with the Lunars. A Lunar commander having turned lustful eyes to Una's superior cattle upped the cattle tax on Una's clan. The clan insisted that they couldn't pay the tax and they were unable or unwilling to resist. When they protested to the officer he suggested that he would waive all the tax if Una could be persuaded to hand her own cattle over. Facing ruin otherwise the clan ring begged Una to accede to their demands and reluctantly she did so. First however she called all her children came and they dropped whatever they had been doing in order to do so.
Una handed the cattle over to the Lunars but once they were safely off the stead she led her children in a raid on the Lunar camp and slaughtered all the cattle they had taken. Knowing that they couldn't return to the clan stead she and her children fled to Whitewall? to fight alongside Broyan. Una has been rather taken by Broyan and it has been rumoured that they have become lovers. Una is never one to take this sort of relationship very serious though and treats men as being disposable. She is so good natured and open about this that few men ever get upset about it. Those who do she smacks around to smarten them up. She is extremely open and forthcoming about her needs and physical relations. To the point of being somewhat embarrassing. Her children have all adopted her outlook to varying extents.
'Una Oxen Lover, priestess of Uralda age 47'
Una, wags joke is almost as big as her charges. They don't say this to her face as she once knocked a yearling bull unconsious with a punch. Una is known for her capabilities as a follower of Uralda, her massive frame (she is as larger or larger than most men in any clan with close cropped grey hair), and her huge appetites for, in no particular order drink, food, song and men. She has had many lovers but no husbands and has a brood of seven sons and four daughters (all twins to four of her sons) each of whom is as big as she is and all of whom are strongly attached to their mother. She is generally of a sunny disposition but can be a terrifying berserk in battle. Una has found some relief from the heartbreak of slaughtering her prized cattle in looking after the cattle at Whitewall and is credited with their doing so well considering the conditions.
Her children (known to one and all as the Unasbrood) are called :
Sons and Daughters
- Branbrig Slayer, age 31, Uroxi warrior
- Garneneva Unasdaughter, age 31 (Ernaldi)
- Elusu Unasson, age 29, Farmer (most hot-tempered of the Unasbrood)
- Jarang Hauberk, age 27, Orlanthi warrior
- Tamare Unasdaughter, age 27 (Lhankor Mhy lawspeaker (the black sheep of the family))
- Yorsar Unasson, age 24 Farmer
- Ferena Unasdaughter, age 24 Babeester Gor Axe Maiden
- Vastyr Unasson, age 21 Farmer
- Offir Unasson, age 19 Smith
- Darrold Unasson, called the Ox, age 16
- Yrsa (called the Beauty) Unasdaughter, age 16
Branbrig Unasson and his twin Garneneva, are the eldest of Una's brood. He is probably the easiest going, best behaved Uroxi you could ever hope to find. He is unambitious and easy-going in all matters except the following : 1) Chaos (where he shows just how good a warrior he is); 2) Insults against his family (where the only one more feared than him is his litttle sister Ferena. She doesn't go berserk so easily though (usually)).
Ferena Unasdaughter is a tall, strapping woman with red hair that she keeps cropped very short like her mother. Unlike her mother she is a cold woman who takes devotion to her goddess very seriously. She is swift to defend the stead and avenge women and children but dislikes raiding which she considers a waste of time. Like all of Una's brood she is strongly devoted to her mother (though she finds her mother's wild lifestyle somewhat embarrassing) and her siblings. Few people would seriously consider going up against all of the Unasbrood as they are called.
Story Seeds
- Yrsa is the source of a serious disagreement between warriors who cannot understand the casual attitude the Unasbrood have to sex. (The Unasbrood would never break any sexual taboos but they have little or no patience with possessive people). It's up to the PCs to come up with some solution to the disagreement. Una's attitude of knocking a few heads together (or sleeping with them herself) doesn't necessarily work all the time.
- Una's sons are highly skilled cattle raiders (despite not being followers of Finovar) and are much sought after to go on raids. The brothers tend to stick together though and you might have to take a Uroxi on a cattle raid. A possible recipe for disaster?
- All of Una's sons are named after their fathers which may prove embarrassing to someone at the siege especially since Una's attitudes towards adultery are fairly lax too.
<Oliver>
<Jane>So the fathers are Branbrig, Elusu, Jarang, Yorsar, Vastyr, Offir and Darrold. But those affairs were a long time ago. Even so, either there are repeats of names at Whitewall (likely, but boring!) or she's been sleeping with two of Kallyr's followers: Elusu, the Trickster(!) and Offir, who also has an adult Vingan daughter, presumably by someone else. Right.... I like Una!</Jane>
